The Bâtiment des Forces Motrices (BFM) is one of Geneva's most emblematic landmarks.

Between 1883 and 1892, the engineer and politician Théodore Turrettini built a hydroelectric power station in the middle of the Rhône riverbed. The plant supplied water from the river to Geneva's fountains, households and factories until it was closed in 1963. The BFM is a successful example of the transformation of an industrial site. First opened as a factory in 1886, then classified as a historic monument in 1988, the site became an opera house in 1997.

The Bâtiment des Forces Motrices now welcomes the general public and professionals for cultural, festive, and corporate events. The auditorium, built entirely of wood, has 801 seats in the parterre and 144 in the balcony. The BFM also has a multipurpose area for corporate events and receptions.
